Employer Sponsor selected Hospital System A
Imagine Health established a contract with Hospital System A for a significant improvement in discount for healthcare services resulting in better medical outcomes and decreased costs.
At inception, physicians selected for the Smart E Network achieved 16% better compliance with evidence-based best practice clinical guidelines than those not selected.
In 2008 and 2009, about 63% of inpatient provider healthcare expenses occurred within the Smart E Network. The Employer Sponsor has saved about $1,500 in provider healthcare expenses per employee each year*. Provider healthcare costs per employee per year were less than 60% of the Employer Sponsor's other manufacturing plants and the regional average. Absenteeism decreased. Members received better benefits and better quality care.
*Provider healthcare savings are based on per unit price reductions only. Per unit price reductions are easily quantified and entirely credited to the Smart E Network. However, most believe higher quality lowers cost due to such things as lower complication rates, fewer unnecessary services and less absenteeism. These "softer" or indirect savings are not included in the provider healthcare savings expressed in the above case studies.
